Holly Tree Cottage

Located in Berrow, Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset, Holly Tree Cottage was opened in 2004.

Our first residential care home, Holly Tree Cottage is a six-bed home for young adults and provides a very 'homely' environment for five young men, all in their late teens or early twenties, and is a hive of constant activity. The home, situated next door to Apple Tree House, is a lively yet caring environment where everybody is treated with respect and personal dignity. The local community is highly supportive.

Vacancies: The sixth bed is currently vacant and comprises a first floor flat with bedroom, bathroom, lounge and a kitchenette. Please contact us for more details.

CQC Inspection: August 2017

Following an unannounced inspection, Holly Tree Cottage has received an overall rating of Good. However, for the question ‘Is the service responsive?’, the awarded rating was Outstanding. Many congratulations to the manager and his staff team.

Below are some quotes from the report:

“There was a very person centred ethos in the home, which meant staff consistently responded to people on an individual basis and worked in accordance with people’s wishes.”

“One relative told us how Holly Tree Cottage was the only home their family member had settled in to. They described how previous placements had not worked out… They are the best [staff] team ever to have worked with [name].”

ʺPeople received care and support which was planned proactively and in partnership with them.”

“Staff promoted opportunities for people to influence how their needs were met. People were supported to choose the staff they wanted to support them with their weekly activities by offering choices and explanation.”

ʺPeople were supported to follow their interests and take part in social activities. The service used innovative ways to ensure people lived fulfilling lives.ʺ

“Staff were supporting people to try out new activities, such as ‘geocaching’. People were really enjoying this activity and they had chosen it as a regular weekly activity. This has had a positive impact on one person because the regular exercise has provided substantial benefits to support their health condition.”

“Staff explained how they had started using a technology application on a computer tablet to analyse one persons’ seizures. The information gained promoted staff to arrange a medicine review for the person, resulting in a positive change to their medication.”

“The registered manager was very visible in the home and had a good knowledge of each person. Throughout the day we saw the registered manager chatting with people in a very relaxed and friendly way, which enabled people to share any worries or concerns.”

ʺStaff supported people to maintain contact with the important people in their lives.ʺ

Individual’s parents:
