Hilltop Staff Team Finalists for Outstanding Contribution to Care Award
30th March 2016
Congratulations to the staff team at Hilltop who were nominated by the home manager, Samantha Taylor, and are now finalists for the Outstanding Contribution to Care Award presented by Care & Support West.
The Care and Support West Awards are run by Care and Support West, a membership body that represents everyone that delivers regulated care across the four old Avon authorities. The annual awards have 12 categories that seek to congratulate and value the work of individuals and/or staff teams who have understood and welcomed models of dignity and personalisation in their particular care setting.
David Smallacombe, Chief Executive of Care & Support West, “In a highly regulated sector too much emphasis is placed on what goes wrong rather than what goes right. Every day there are people such as the Hilltop staff team making a huge difference to the quality of life of older and more vulnerable people. We are excited about this year’s line-up of award finalists that seek to recognise, reward and celebrate the outstanding work and contributions people make.”
Sam had the following to say about her team:
‘I have been the home manager of the staff team at Hilltop since March 2015. Since beginning my role of home manager I have seen some remarkable achievements by all the team. We mainly work with individuals that are non-verbal and the team are really passionate in aiding with communications to help the individuals have their voices heard. Work is being completed with iPads, Proloquo2go (visual communication software), TEACCH boards, Widgets and signing and this has had a dramatic effect on the individuals we support. Staff have built really good relationships with the individuals within the home and also their parents, liaising with the latter on a regular basis to keep in touch with achievements and also to support with any concerns we may have and gain their input and advice.
Staff are really supportive of each other, offering support and guidance to newer staff members and each other, making them feel valued and appreciated, which ultimately benefits the individuals in the home and helps build on relationships and trust.’
